Setup

  • 108 suited tiles only: Dots, Bamboo, and Characters. No honors, flowers, or jokers. The dealer starts with 14 tiles; others start with 13.
  • A sequence is three consecutive tiles of one suit; a triplet is three identical tiles. Honors cannot form sequences. A kong is four identical tiles and counts as one set.
  • Before play, exchange three tiles of the same suit in the selected direction (Huan San Zhang), then declare one void suit (Ding Que).

Turns

  • Draw one tile and discard one. If you hold void-suit tiles, discard them before any other suit.
  • A winner reveals their hand and leaves turn rotation. Remaining players continue until three have won or the wall exhausts. The first winner becomes the next dealer; simultaneous first winners make the discarder the next dealer. If there is no winner, the dealer stays.

Calls

  • Hu outranks Kong, which outranks Pong. Chow claims are forbidden, although concealed sequences are legal. Pong and Kong cannot use void-suit tiles.
  • All eligible players can Hu the same discard, and the discarder pays each winner. Promoted kongs can be robbed for +1 Fan.
  • Kong payments occur immediately among active players: concealed kong collects 2 points from each opponent; direct kong collects 2 from the discarder; promoted kong collects 1 from each opponent.

Winning

  • Complete four sets and one pair, or concealed Seven Pairs. In Seven Pairs a quad may count as two pairs. No tile in the hand or melds may belong to your void suit.
  • No minimum Fan applies: 0 Fan (Ping Hu) is legal. Each kong adds one physical tile to the normal 14-tile structure.

Scoring

  • Payout is 2^Fan, capped at 4 Fan (16 points) in the standard profile. Compatible patterns and Gen (quads) add Fan without counting the same quad twice. Discard wins are paid by the discarder; self-draw wins by all remaining active opponents.
  • If the wall exhausts, resolve void-suit penalties, ready-hand compensation, then eligible kong refunds. The exact recipients and amounts are in the draw-settlement reference.
